Algeria: Cultural Heritage Development in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tipaza Algeria

What

SWA in collaboration with the Global Heritage Fund (GHF) worked on achieving a more dynamic tourism economy by increasing international and domestic awareness of the cultural assets and communities in Algeria. Increasing awareness of culture through tourism focusing on quality, development, and marketing of local handicrafts and cultural products. SWA was assisted by local SWA consultant, Hadi Messaoudi.

Activities and Services: 

  • Conducted capacity building workshop on marketing and design for artisans (Conducted by GHF Expert, Jenny Chou)
  • Research on existing tangible products
  • Analysis of inventory
  • Creation of profiles for local artisans and producers, 
  • Conducted a pop-up sale of crafts to boost sales and awareness
  • Organized virtual roundtable with US artists

Results:

  • Help to launch a pop-up market for facilitated sales and awareness of local products 
  • Increased quality, development, and marketing of local handicrafts and cultural products through the two workshops and the roundtable with the U.S. artisans.
  • Workshop on crafts branding and presentation was conducted with 30 participants  
  • Workshop on crafts marketing and pricing was conducted with 25 participants.
